Celebrating Excellence: Board Member Asedrick Thomas Wins NABJ Award

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) held its 2025 Salute to Excellence Awards on Saturday, August 9th, during its annual convention in Cleveland. These awards recognize outstanding journalism that covers the Black experience or addresses issues affecting the Black community.
We are proud to share that our very own Board Member, Asedrick Thomas, has been honored with his third Salute to Excellence Award.
Thomas received the award for his exceptional work as Executive Producer of Dr. King: Building Bridges and Breaking Barriers, a news special produced at WKYC in collaboration with the Cleveland Public Library. Not only did he executive produce the program—he also wrote, edited, and shaped the production from start to finish. The special featured rare audio recordings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s visits to Cleveland during the 1960s, bringing to light an important and often overlooked piece of history.
This project is a powerful example of Thomas’s dedication to storytelling that informs, educates, and preserves history. His ability to weave together archival material and narrative insight underscores why his work continues to be celebrated at the national level.
